World Nuclear Energy Day is December 2nd, annually. Each year there is a new theme which helps us achieve the goal to reach nuclear advocates on a global scale, highlighting the benefits of nuclear energy to the environment and our society.
The theme shown in the video has evolved each year as we reflect and commit to timely goals. This year's theme, "A Chain Reaction", offers a nod to the community we have built through previous years, and a dedication to continue raising awareness worldwide.
World Nuclear Energy Day 2021 was epic in size, influence and outreach.
The multilingual, virtual World Nuclear Energy Day celebratory events spanned several time zones and featured prominent activists from every continent, focused on the crucial role that educators play in combating misinformation while also highlighting the positive role that nuclear plays in the climate change battle and why we need transformative nuclear energy education now.
Please send your pictures of your celebrations and events and we will post in the "Gallery".
The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.

The next "day" is approaching fast and we’re making preparations.
About World Nuclear Energy Day
This is the one day when people around the globe celebrate the virtues and benefits of nuclear energy, open their shops for tours (both virtual and physical), discuss new technologies, and work to include nuclear energy in legislation at the local, regional, national and international levels.
World Nuclear Energy Day aims to raise awareness of the many positive contributions that nuclear energy systems make to our society. World Nuclear Energy Day celebrates the people that design, build, operate and support the broad range of technologies from large systems down to tiny micro-nuclear. Together we celebrate, with YOU at the center.

Connecting with one another and sharing expertise is critical for everyone working in the nuclear energy market. World Nuclear Energy Day helps keep these connections alive not only on this one special day but also provides the impetus for enthusiasm all year round. We are building our future together, on local and global scales; different people and places united in a drive for vibrant communities of nuclear energy advocates.
Date: December 2, 2021 and Annually Thereafter
This date was selected to acknowledge BOTH the first date for a self-sustaining chain reaction and also the date of the start-up of the first commercial scale electric power reactor. Fermi’s first nuclear reactor named the Chicago Pile-1 became the first to create a self-sustaining chain reaction on December 2, 1942. In addition, the first commercial sized reactor in Shippingport, Pennsylvania also went critical on December 2nd, 1957; exactly 15 years later on the same day. Nuclear in the Neighborhood
Getting to know Nuclear All Around us
Each year World Nuclear Energy Day highlights one key aspect of the nuclear energy and power industry. This year we focus on the ubiquity of nuclear in all its beneficial forms. Events and celebrations focus on nuclear in your own neighborhood, whether it be in agriculture, medicine, power, energy, technology, propulsion, food irradiation, space missions, or so many more. Come celebrate with us "Nuclear in the Neighborhood" in your own geographic area with an event, webinar, lecture, party, seminar or zoom meeting.
Share the Passion
For nuclear energy advocates and leaders, World Nuclear Energy Day is an opportunity for both the technical nuclear community and their business development peers to share in their mutual passion while preserving and promoting relationships, traditions and shared memories. Swing open the doors (both virtually and physically) and have some fun while also educating those who attend.

Events focus on "Nuclear in the Neighborhood". We celebrate this one day both locally in your neighborhood as well as on a world-wide basis because some challenges have to be met with a global response. Celebrants take to the streets, internet, offices, power plants and airwaves to teach us what is obvious, that there will be no future for us if we destroy the environment that sustains us. This one day helps us all to also continue to pursue a "green recovery" in response to the coronavirus pandemic; showing that healthy energy supplies enable healthy environments.
